Fenshuiling Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The formation was called as the Fenshuiling sub-formation by the Beijing College of Geology and described by The Shandong Bureau of Geology in 1991. The type locality is in the Mengyin, and the key section is the Caoyang Village – Fenshuiling Village section in the Wennan Town of Xintai City, Shandong.
Synonym: The Mengyin Fm (or Mengyin Gr) is either coeval in this same region (Mengyin basin) or is a synonym. However, Liu et al. (2019, The Cretaceous of Shandong Province, Open Jour. Geol., 9: 646-649, https://doi.org/ 10.4236/ojg.2019.910064) indicate "The Mengyin Group consists of the lower Santai Fm and the upper Fenshuiling Fm."
Lithology and Thickness
The Fenshuiling Formation is a group of grayish yellow, yellowish green, dark grey siltstone, sandstone, shale intercalated with sandy conglomerate. The formation is 795.5 m thick at the key section; it is 53.8 m in Jiepai of Mengyin.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The Fenshuiling Formation is conformably overlying the Santai Fm.
Upper contact
The Fenshuiling Formation is conformably underlying the Chengshanhou Fm.
Regional extent
It is distributed in the Mengyin and Zibo basins of western Shandong.
